Before we start getting into the core part of making a website let me explain what is WordPress? WordPress is an open source and content management system which means anyone or contributors can modify it. On a beginner or dummy level, it is the best or easiest way to create a website without any knowledge of programming. According to statistics by W3Techs, it powers 33,9% of all the websites on the internet.

Like any other website to be live, you need to have a domain and hosting. Yes, you may be wondering what is that again as well. Keep on reading I have explained it below.

What Is A Domain Name?

A domain name is the unique address of a website which is typed in the URL bar of browsers. Just like each has a unique address which is not similar to another all domains are different from one another.

What Is Web Hosting?

Web hosting is the server which raises your domain like where all your website files are stored? The way a domain and hosting go in hand is that a domain is like a house then the hosting is the stand or ground where the house is built. So you can not build a house without a stand. Same as with website you cannot build a website without one of the two(2).

Steps to start creating your WordPress Website.

Install WordPress

After getting your domain and hosting that is when you install WordPress and start building your website. Some or most hosts like the one I use has a 1 click install of WordPress. After installing WordPress you log in and access the backend of your website.

Install Theme

It is much easier if you just get Premium themes at either Elegant.com or Themeisle.com These themes will be visually good, responsive and SEO(Search Engine Optimisation) friendly. Despite it being easy getting a theme which can accommodate or adjust to your business. You cannot make specific modifications at times as themes customisations are limited. So you can use WordPress’ Drag and Drop page builders.

Adding Pages

You add the number of pages you want for your website. You do not need to create a page for every single element you want on your website. Just remember like you usually do when you are browsing another website its either you land on the home page, pricing or blog page and that is just it, you do not visit the other pages on the site. So think like a customer and try to make as fewer pages as possible inserting all elements of your business on the landing page, so that customers get what you offering the first time.

Creating A Menu

This is the navigation menu. On a menu, you can add pages, posts and custom links. The menu will be placed on the header and/or footer.

Header And Footer

On your theme, there is a header and a footer. On the header, you can insert your logo, social icons, phone number, email and the main menu. Same elements with the footer depending on how you want your footer to look like. But I recommend pages like privacy policy, disclaimer and terms of service to be on the footer.

Installing Page Builders

There are various drag and drop WordPress page builders. I have listed them down with my preference due to features and responsiveness.

  1. Elementor.
  2. The Divi Builder.
  3. Beaver Builder.

Install Templates

Page builders come with templates which will your site building it will just take minutes to build your website. Some of the templates are premium. Premium templates usually offer animation effects depending on the niche of your website.
